On this page you will find articles about events that the parent network has either run or attended, as well as anything that doesn't quite fit in anywhere else.Copy of the report for 2003 presented at the AGM Big
Cheese 2004
A very successful day was had at the Big Cheese this year. The weather managed to stay dry and warm and there was a lot of activity around the Parent Network stand. While the children were having fun having their hair sprayed and being tattooed by parents from the network, there was a chance to discuss the work of the Parent Network with their parents! It was a great opportunity to advertise the work of the Parent Network and a big thanks to all who took part Ann Fritter (Webmasters note: keep an eye on the Photo Gallery as pictures from the Big Cheese will be posted over the next few weeks) A
visit to Pontlottyn Family Centre
The Pontlottyn Family Centre organised an open day on the 19th of November. Members of the Network expressed interest in attending and we took the opportunity to see the work that the Family Centre does around work with young parents and parents of teenagers. There are excellent facilities at the centre and we all enjoyed a cup of tea and the chance to network! For further information on the work of the centre contact The Family Centre on 01685 846050. Ann Fritter Parents'
Week
October 25 - 31 was this year's Parents' Week. The theme of this year's week was 'Time for Families'. To link in with this event, a coffee morning was organised and the children and parents got together. It was a chance for the parents to catch up with each other and the children to get stuck into some craft work! An enjoyable (if slightly messy) time was had by all! Thanks to the Creative Play project for supplying us with the craft materials for the morning. Ann fritter Book Reviews 'The Secret of Happy Children' Steve Biddulph I found this book an excellent read! So many times books on parenting can be 'preachy' and 'heavy going'. However, Steve Biddulph's book is full of useful and relevant information while being very readable as well as funny! Ann Fritter Raising Boys - Steve Biddulph This is a very informative insight into how boys develop. It acknowledges that boys are different to girls and therefore have some specific parenting issues surrounding them. I would also recommend this book to any woman with a man in their life - it does explain a few things! Ann Fritter Blue Bottle Mystery - An Asperger Adventure Kathy Hoopmann This is a book about Ben who finds out he has Aspergers Syndrome. The tale explores how he feels and his different relationships. An enjoyable children's book which children will like and which will help anyone who has an Aspergers child to explore issues with the child and with friends and family. Ann
